New Year, New Color, New Word

Happy New Year! After two weeks of vacationing, I’m back at the helm and ready to roll. Today, along with the new year, let me present a new color and a new word!

Pantone Announces its Color of the Year 2022

If you love purple, this is the year for you. Pantone, the color system used in creative industries, recently introduced Very Peri as its 2022 Color of the Year.

“As we move into a world of unprecedented change,” says Pantone Color Institute’s Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman, “the selection of PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family, encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.”

I’m always impressed by the coverage Pantone puts into its annual color announcements. Each year the copywriting is superb, with every word choice a power-packed contribution to the story. They inspire deep thought into the premiered color and how it reflects what’s taking place in our world.

I like how Pantone actually personifies Veri Peri with phrases like “displaying a carefree confidence and daring curiosity” and “helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives.”

Well said!

After two tough years, wouldn’t we all love to be carefree and confident? And if we have to rewrite our lives, isn’t it nice to have something to brighten the way? Color, by way of its emotion-inducing nature, is just what we need and Very Peri is a perfect choice. You’ll soon see it trending in consumer products everywhere.

Adunate Announces its Word Choice for 2022

I love all the words in the Veri Peri copy. Carefree. Dynamic. Courageous. Imaginative. There are even more on Pantone’s website here. They’re all motivation for the new year. They all delight me. And since I’m only picking one word, I’m merging them all into a single “delight.”

Here are a few of many things, in no particular order, in which I hope to delight:

  1. Delight as in Ross Gay’s “The Book of Delights,” my inspiration for this year’s word choice.
  2. Delight in the Lord, as in Psalm 37:4.
  3. Delight in positives instead of negatives.
  4. Delight in my family.
  5. Delight in my clients and work.
  6. Delight in simplicity.
  7. Delight in God’s beautiful creation.
  8. Delight in my disciplines; morning prayer, mediation, yoga.
  9. Delight in the hard things.
  10. Delight in curiosity, learning, new things.
  11. Delight in others.
  12. Overall, delight in life!

Happy New Year, dear folks! May God be with you and bless your 2022!
