Growing in more ways than one is The Farmory, a community-oriented aquaponics farm and fish hatchery in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The Farmory is the answer to an urban food desert in downtown Green Bay. This non-profit organization is taking a vacant, historic armory and transforming it into a state-of-the-art aquaponics farm and bio-secure fish hatchery. Neighboring restaurants, schools, and healthcare institutions now have access to clean, local fish and fresh greens, thanks to the caring folks at The Farmory.
Equally important, The Farmory is also committed to outreach and education for the community. Think service-learning, hands-on workshops and education partnerships; all affording local residents the knowledge, equipment, and experience needed to grow their own food.
The Farmory was looking for a multi-purpose brochure that would tell an introductory story of its organization. The science of aquaponics can get technical, so we limited the shop talk and illustrated the basics. This, together with showcasing the human side of this wonderful organization will perk the viewers’ curiosity and motivate them to learn more.
As an organization giving back to the community, The Farmory is involved in a multitude of entities. The challenge was to refine this into a quick read while still communicating everything they do.
