Shout Out to My Ladies!

Have I mentioned it’s National Women’s Small Business Month? Maybe a few times, yes? I love promoting my clients so as we wrap up October, let me give a shout-out to all my women-owned businesses.

Ladies, you are awesome! You are my friends, my inspiration, and totally my heroes!

Heather Brooks and I go waaaay back. I babysat her when we were both much younger and even then she was creatively cool. This year Heather’s Brooks Innovative Graphics is celebrating its 20th year as the go-to branding and design studio for Shiawassee County, Michigan. Her logos, decals, and laser-etching make Owosso businesses jump off the street with marketing flair!

Chris Kirsch is a quilter extraordinaire, author, teacher, travel guide, walking partner and sister-in-Christ. Ten years ago she said she was computer-inept. I said let’s trying blogging anyway. Since then she has completely taken over the quilt blogging world with her helpful tips, interesting adventures and caring heart. Want to go to Europe in 2021? Check out her European Christmas Market Cruise!

Donny’s Girl Supper Club is where Watertown, Wisconsin goes for a tasty night out and owner Jaci Mueller is the paradigm of pandemic pivoting. For the past eight months she’s savvily adjusted her restaurant according to COVID restrictions and concern for her customers and employees. Curbside Friday fish? Our car is always in line!

COVID notwithstanding, Fermentation Fest draws thousands of visitors every year to Sauk County, Wisconsin. This autumn event is the brainchild of the brilliant Donna Neuwirth and presented by her Wormfarm Institute, a non-profit organization committed to integrating culture and agriculture. Donna has been immeasurable in bringing awareness to the community and reconnection to the land.

It didn’t take long for Liz Nitardy and I to decide we were sisters from another mister. Our differences? She makes the most beautiful greeting cards ever! Hymns In My Heart began as a homemade gift and has grown into a distinctive niche in religious greeting cards. Featuring favorite hymns, they are a gift in themselves. Stay tuned as she finalizes her e-commerce!

Lohr Law Office provides legal advice and representation in the areas of criminal appeals. I may be biased in saying owner Jennifer Lohr is my favorite Madison attorney (she is my daughter after all:-). Based on her 15 years of diverse legal experience, I can proudly attest to her caring heart, legal smarts and dedicated work ethic.

Soil Sisters began ten years ago when Lisa Kivirist invited a handful of like-minded women over for potluck. As a farmer and owner of Inn Serendipity, she has become an active voice for women farmers and small business owners. In Her Boots ProjectWisconsin’s Cookie Bill, and Wisconsin Cottage Food are a few samplings of Lisa’s exhaustive energy.

As a certified, organic grower of European cider apples, Deirdre Birmingham makes the magic happen at The Cider Farm. Apple cider, apple brandy and apple brandy-infused maple syrup are the delicious fruits of her labor. You can enjoy them at their Madison, Wisconsin tasting room. You can also find them online, and in Wisconsin and Illinois restaurants and stores. Christmas is coming folks—great specialties for gift giving!

Buying or selling your home isn’t stressful when you have June Herman and Terry Donahue as your agents. Together they make up the fun, experienced and easy-to-work-with team known as The Real Estate Duo. I can vouch for their fun! With a tagline of “it’s not about houses, it’s about people,” you can understand why their clients quickly become their friends.

If you’re from anywhere in Wisconsin, you know Tietz Family Farms for their delicious produce, pork, eggs and pumpkins. But mostly, we love them for their popcorn! Tammy is the heart and soul of this family operation and I’ve frequently referred to her in my marketing workshops. She’s a promotional guru! Want to give a gift of popcorn this holiday season? Order now!

Know a woman-owned business? Give her a shout-out. This COVID year has been hard on all businesses, but particularly so on women-owned. Ladies, let’s give each other a boost!
